SUREFIRE BROADCAST- LIVE FROM THE A.M.- SELF-RELEASED- SFBC is
the Southern New Jersey trio of Lisa, Rodney and Dan. Lisa used
to be in early 90’s shoegazer band Angry Breed (when the term
shoegazer meant something ) where she picked up stakes and left
NJ for New Mexico where she probably taught James Mercer a thing
or two about songwriting (snik snik). There she met Rodney and
they decided they missed the Garden State and headed back east
where they formed SFBC. These 5 songs are heavy on the melody
and guitar and I’m occasionally reminded of The Kinks and
other times My Bloody Valentine then once in a great while of
The Swirlies (remember them ?). If this was 1993 this band would
be signed to Slumberland Records in a heartbeat. The opener
“Hey Baby” made me think of Delaware’s late, lamented
Smashing Orange while “Inner Child” was decidedly more pop
as was the jangly “Miles Apart.” The other 2 songs are
winners as well. Someone out there with brains should sign this
bunch pronto. ( www.surefirebroadcast.com )
